McLemore Golf & Sweetens Cove Host Golf Tournament Above the Clouds
It was a weekend of golf, fun and friendship at the ‘Where the Valley Meets the Sky’ tournament, a joint event hosted by McLemore Golf Resort and Sweetens Cove, two of the most acclaimed golf clubs in the Southeast. The two are often considered the best golf courses in Georgia and Tennessee, and players were able to experience that firsthand.
Experienced and excited golfers from across the country participated in this epic golf adventure that took them from the valley to the sky, playing on two stunning courses that offered different-but-equally-thrilling challenges.
All About Where the Valley Meets the Sky
The tournament kicked off on Saturday, Sept. 2, 2023, at Sweetens Cove, a gem that has been called one of the best nine-hole courses in the country.
Sweetens Cove was in immaculate condition. Players came together for a kickoff party that got everyone into the perfect golfing spirit.
The next day, the players were divided - half started the tournament at McLemore, our mountaintop resort that offers breathtaking views of the always-beautiful Appalachian Mountains and the Tennessee River Valley.
Golfers enjoyed a perfect day on our exhilarating layout, the Highlands Course, a masterpiece designed by true legends in design and golf. The course features dramatic elevation changes, strategic bunkering, and stunning vistas that make for an interesting day for players not familiar with the course.
The weather was sunny and warm, as temperatures held steady around 80 degrees with manageable humidity. The wind speed was light as well – truly exceptional conditions!
The golfers felt comfortable and relaxed as they hit their shots and admired the scenery.
The highlight of the course is the 18th hole, a hole written and spoken about often. It’s a hole that truly leaves golfers speechless – a par-4 that drops 150 feet from tee to green and offers a panoramic view of the surrounding natural beauty.
It’s a view that really has to be experienced to believe.
McLemore is a Georgia golf resort that also has to be experienced to believe, as it has something for everyone. After the round, the players celebrated at McLemore’s clubhouse with music, food, and drinks.
The next day, the weather changed as a cold front brought some showers and thunderstorms to the area. The golfers had to deal with some potential wet conditions and slippery greens, which added some difficulty to their round. However, they also had some fun and excitement as they played in shifting conditions.
The tournament concluded on Monday, Sept. 4, 2023, after another full day of golf. For those at McLemore the day prior, they spent the final day at Sweetens Cove to indulge in 9 holes of excitement and adventure.
Players encountered blind shots, hidden bunkers, massive greens, and multiple options around every corner. They also enjoyed the natural beauty of the land. From rolling hills to native grasses and bubbling creeks, this course features a variety of beautiful views.
It’s true what they say: Sweetens Cove isn’t your typical golf course. It’s a place where you can have fun, be adventurous, and play the game your way – and that’s what all were able to experience during this weekend-long tournament.
The evening ended with an awards ceremony, where the winners were announced and presented with prizes.
The ‘Where the Valley Meets the Sky’ tournament was more than just a golf competition. It was a celebration of the game, the land, and the people who love them both. The players had a chance to experience two of the best golf courses in the country and make new friends along the way.
It was an unforgettable weekend of golf and fun that will be remembered for years to come.
