Why McLemore’s new course, The Outpost, makes this golf's next emerging destination
The new course at McLemore, called The Outpost and located 16 miles south of Lookout Mountain Club with the same eastern overlook, broke ground this fall and will occupy this section of the property. To the developers’ credit, they’ve reserved the entire site for golf. Many real-estate-focused entities would have cashed in upfront on the million-dollar views and reserved the frontage for homesites, but McLemore realized that placing the course along the ridgeline, which looks directly down over a cove 400 feet below, could pay indefinite dividends.
McLEMORE MAKES GOLF WEEK MAGAZINE’S TOP TEN COURSES BY STATE:
With McLemore entering its second full year of operations and first season with the new cliff-edge clubhouse, accolades continue to underscore that the course truly ranks “above the clouds.” The private, 18-hole Highlands Course is available to Members and Guests, and recently opened the ‘Stay and Play’ program. The program allows guests to experience McLemore’s course, on-site lodging and dining at The Creag, with Appalachian inspired dining prepared by Chef Anthony Hooper. McLemore President Duane Horton said, “We are thrilled with the ranking from Golf Week. It’s humbling to see the reaction from so many in the golf world who are coming to McLemore to experience and appreciate the design and expertise of Bill Bergin and Rees Jones. Their vision and the team executing it has truly placed McLemore on the map and for that we are extremely grateful.”
McLemore celebrates development growth over past year.
McLemore a Scenic Land Company community located atop Lookout Mountain, noted a strong ending to 2020 with projections calling for a record-breaking year in 2021. Scenic Land Company President Duane Horton noted that 2020 was a year for foundational growth. He noted, “Last year, we opened the golf course, short course, clubhouse and The Creag, our restaurant that is open to the public as well as to our residents. Every home placed on the market was sold and those under construction are also under contract. As we plan for the new year, conservative projections call for sales tripling. This expected growth is exciting for a team that has been focused on developing this community, but it’s also extremely humbling as we see efforts yield such strong return.”

MCLEMORE OPENS NEW HIGHLANDS COURSE
“From planning through execution, the expertise and artistry were matched only by their shared vision and passion for the course. Equally impressive was their understanding of our site’s unique mountaintop setting, respect for our overall master plan, and stewardship of the land. We are confident members and guests will appreciate and enjoy McLemore for generations to come as a result of the partnership of Bill Bergin and Rees Jones.”
NEW LAYOUT BY BILL BERGIN & REES JONES IS A DAZZLING ADDITION TO NORTH GEORGIA GOLF.
McLemore feels remote, yet it’s only 27 miles southwest of downtown Chattanooga and at the center of a two and half-hour driving radius of Nashville, Knoxville, Atlanta and Birmingham. The Chattanooga-based Scenic Land Co. has ambitious plans for the 450-acre site, including potential development of an adjoining 435-acre parcel. Only one-third of the 300 homesites remain to be sold, with 80 luxury residences already occupied year round. A franchise agreement with Hilton Hotels is in place for a Curio Collection resort as well.
